Usable baskets made out of old brown folders

When my office mates where doing their general cleaning towards the end of the year, last year. Part of their activity was to tidy up their filing cabinets. With it, they had to discard old, torn and mutilated brown filing folders.  Brown filing folders were mostly used because, its more sturdy and its cheaper too.  Looking at the stack of folders ready to be disposed, I thought it will be such a waste to just throw them away.

So, the crafty side of me popped in. I sorted through the pile of folders, and got those that are, well usable. Cut it into 1 inch thick strips, or .5 inch whichever you prefer,  and weaved them together and then a few minutes after, voila a basket.

Different sizes of baskets made from brown folder. The smallest basket in the middle was made using 1/2 inch strips.

Basket in use. Colored this one black using left over spray paint.
Items used to make the basket:
● Scissors
● Used brown folders
● Paper clips, to temporarily hold the ends
● Clear tape/hot glue, but hot glue is better to permanently hold the ends with

* Of course you need to know the basic concept of weaving.

So the next time you have folders for disposal, think twice before throwing them away, you might still find a good use for them.

Maybe you have other recycle projects that you would like to share, let me know.
